Outdoor Garden Sheds

Selecting Top Quality Outdoor Garden Sheds

With modern living, if there is one thing that is a priceless commodity, it is definitely storage space. In your home, you look for closets and alcoves to accommodate that need. Outside, storage is just as much of a concern. While garage area is important, it still might not be enough. Adding outdoor garden sheds can vastly increase the usability of the average yard. It's not difficult to select the right shed for your needs if you understand what is available.

The first thing to determine is what look you are going for. The three most common materials for outdoor garden sheds are metal, timber and plastic. There are advantages and disadvantages to each and options for all price ranges. The metal shed is often quite affordable, but not built quite as sturdy as some other options. It is also more easily damaged because it is flexible and easily dented. Metal is light, however, and easy to move. Plastic provides a very sturdy and durable material, while wood will give you a more natural look. Plastic, however, can be painted and textured to mimic the look of wood quite easily.

Most purchased outdoor garden sheds come ready to place on your property. However, you can save on the expenses by purchasing garden shed kits. These cheap garden sheds include all the materials and parts needed to erect your shed, along with detailed instructions. You can also buy plans and designs for a do-it-yourself project. Some plans are sold at a flat rate, while others vary based upon the square footage of each project. A small garden shed would be more affordable than a larger tool shed, for example. Some sites even allow to customize their plans to your specifications. Most plans are simple enough to build over a relaxed weekend.

As with most products, brand definitely matters. For example, a plastic Suncast shed will be more durable and perform better than a generic counterpart. However, don't discount small independent manufacturers. While they may not be seen in a large hardware store, they often have attention to detail and service that is unmatched. Just be aware of the differences when shopping to ensure that you receive the best possible product.

I agree. Small manufacturers are more flexible and can offer a customized design to suit your needs. I would say to people to do their research... I'm sure all manufacturers have a website for more information.

The ones made of steel can rust so they require some maintenance but they’re sturdy and able to resist strong winds. If you live in a hurricane area I would highly recommend getting one.

Though it is important to save money, avoid choosing poor quality materials. Ideally you want something that will last several years... so make sure to do a bit of research on the type of materials. You may find some cheap materials, but are high quality.

I live in South Florida where it rains heavily through most of the Summer and a metal shed is probably going to rust in no time. For me plastic or vinyl is the best choice.
